Elizabeth Griffin, LMHC, CAGS
Elizabeth Griffin is an experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice, and Consultant /School Adjustment Counselor at Upper Cape Technical School for 20 plus years. She has earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University, and a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from Bridgewater State University. As a Mental Health Counselor she assists students, adults and families who struggle with mental health disorders, emotional and behavioral issues, substance use struggles, and crisis intervention. As a clinician, she saw the need to address substance use and the opioid epidemic in our community and she and other founders created the Bourne Substance Free Coalition.

Joseph J. Carrara Jr.
Board member Joe Carrara is the Assistant Fire Chief in Bourne and has been with Bourne Fire/Rescue & Emergency Services since 1992. He has been a member of the Bourne Substance Free Coalition since its inception. He resides in Bourne with his wife and two sons.

Trudy Avery
As the very grateful mother of a son in long-term recovery, Trudy has personally advocated on behalf of many families who have struggled with the disease of substance use disorder. Her advocacy has included testimony at the local, state and national levels in seeking legislation on access to treatment.
Trudy is the former Chief Development Officer at Pavillon, a substance-use treatment center located in the Blue Ridge mountains of western North Carolina. She sits on the boards of the Massachusetts Organization of Addiction Recovery and the Aids Support Group of Cape Cod. In addition to being a member of the Bourne Substance Free Coalition, she is a member of the Sandwich Cares Coalition, Faces and Voices of Recovery, Plymouth County’s Drug Endangered Children’s Initiative. She recently served as a committee member for the National Institute of Health’s Healing Communities Study for the towns of Bourne and Sandwich.

Dave Sampson
David P. Sampson has served on the Board of Trustees of Falmouth Hospital, Cape Cod Healthcare, Plymouth Savings Bank, Eastern Bank, Kelley Foundation, Otis Advisory Council and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. He recently completed a term as Governor for Rotary District 7950, encompassing 65 clubs, with 2,000 members in Southeastern Massachusetts and the entire state of Rhode Island.
Dave earned a BS in Education at Fitchburg State College, a Master of Arts at the University of Connecticut, and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study at Boston University. He was the Superintendent of the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School for 18 years, and now serves as an elected School Committee member for the school.

Donna Beers
Donna Beers was one of the original members of Bourne Substance Free Coalition, before it had a name. As a mom of four sons, Donna started her personal journey with substance use disorder (SUD) when her two youngest sons became involved in substance use and the justice system. She is beyond grateful to report they are both in recovery today.
Donna recently retired from the Bourne School Department where she was a school nurse for over twenty years. During her time there, she saw firsthand the effects of SUD on her students and their families and advocated to get Narcan into the health offices at all Bourne public schools. She has recently joined the Upper Cape Learn to Cope Family Resource Center in Falmouth.

Elizabeth Boucher and Margaret Gilbert
Elizabeth Boucher and Margaret Gilbert are members of the coalition. They both work as school adjustment counselors at Bourne High School. Their experience working with teenagers in the town of Bourne provides the coalition with a unique perspective to current substance related concerns. Additionally, their membership bridges the gap between assisting our local youth to connect with outside resources and supports. Furthermore, they are both licensed mental health providers who assist clients in the outpatient setting who are in recovery.

Donel Beals
A concerned mom of two teenagers and a community member, as well as being one of eleven children with a few siblings recovered from Substance Use Disorder, Donel is passionate about prevention. Donel is a longtime PTA member of the Bourne School district, as well as a mentor for students in town. She is an elected member of the School Committee and a Trustee for the Bourne Veterans Memorial building. Whether it is fundraising or helping to coordinate events in town, Donel is a positive voice for raising awareness.

Marie J. Oliva
Marie Oliva is the President & CEO of the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber, a non-profit organization primarily serving the communities of Bourne, Sandwich, Wareham, parts of Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts with over 500 business members. We provide services related to economic development, transportation, small business development, and operation of two visitor centers located at the base of the Sagamore Bridge and on Main Street, Buzzards Bay at the Railroad Station.
Marie served as the Co-Chair of the Cape Cod Canal Centennial Celebration, attracting over 150,000 people into the region during a week=long period. Over 3 years of planning went into the 100th Birthday of the Cape Cod Canal located in the backyard of the Chamber’s Business Office and Railroad Station.
Marie was a full time Elected Selectwoman in Bourne over 25 years ago and was the first women elected in Bourne’s 100-year history. She served for 10 years before moving to the Onset Bay Association as the Executive Director working on downtown revitalization projects.

Kristin Donohue
Kristin is the Director of Special Education and Student Services for the Bourne Public School District. She has served in an administrative role for 10 years and previously was a speech-language pathologist servicing students aged 3 to 22 years of age. In addition, she has done work in hospitals and rehabilitation centers for individuals with neurological and traumatic brain injuries. She also volunteers as an Educational Surrogate Parent working with students receiving support from the Department of Child and Families. An advocate for fostering inclusive communities she has served on local and state disability awareness committees. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Education Leadership through the University of Southern New Hampshire.

Cathy Harper
Cathy is an ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. For over 10 years, Cathy provided pastoral care to children in hospital settings and founded Children’s Chapel programs in these settings, helping children to find strength and meaning in difficult circumstances. As a Deacon, Cathy has been involved in many community outreach efforts, having one foot in the door of the church and one foot in the communities she was serving. Cathy was in the doorways, discerning needs and helping develop initiatives to serve those needs. In particular, the formation of St. Gabriel’s Opioid Awareness and Education group began in response to the drug/opioid crisis. This group joined with the Healthy Tri-Town Coalition (Marion, Rochester, Mattapoisett) in efforts to develop education and awareness programs, being part of compassionate solutions to addiction. Recently retired and brand new to the BSFC, her joy and passion continue to be serving and outreach to those in need. Cathy is a wife, mother, grandmother, and lives in Sagamore Beach.

Emilie Barmashi
Emilie has owned a recruiting consulting business since 2009 and works with an aerospace composites manufacturer.
She has a long-love for community service and spent 20 years with the Girl Scouts as a youth and a volunteer. Living in the Town of Bourne since 2003, she was drawn to volunteer for the Bourne Substance Free Coalition as she has three children and realizes the challenges of raising children. She likes that the coalition offers healthy choices to the community with a prevention mindset.

Kaitlyn Shea
Kaitlyn is the Assistant Health Agent for the Town of Bourne. She has degrees in nursing and biology. While her professional role led her to the Bourne Substance Free Coalition, her personal investment in the Coalition’s mission has driven her to be more actively involved in the group. Kaitlyn resonates with the passion each member of the Coalition has exuded which is why she feels they are the perfect partner for the Health Department in the fight against Substance Use Disorder and the Opioid Crisis this region is facing.

Stevie Fitch
Stevie is the Conservation Agent for the Town of Bourne. She has her masters degree in Public Health and her B.S. in Environmental Biology. She was previously a health inspector for the Bourne Health Department. She is passionate about public service and engaging with community youth to improve mental and behavioral health. Stevie believes that the health of a community is intricately linked to the health of the environment and is always looking for ways to encourage the community to get outside and enjoy the nature of Cape Cod.

Pam Mascetta
Pam is a long time resident of Bourne, having raised 2 now adult children. Being a grandmother she is very aware of the challenges facing parents and young people today. She hopes to contribute to our community by supporting and developing programs that promote positive and healthy growth. Pam has been a professional figure skating coach for over 45 years. She founded the Bourne Skating Club and is passionate about encouraging young people to be the best they can be.
